Fatal Claw Getting Started

Origin Laboratory, Carox, healing, and Cabitz in hour one.

Getting Started

Your first hour in Fatal Claw is Origin Laboratory, not a made-up tutorial valley. Kisha is a cat resurrected by his ancestors. The stained-glass introduction sets the tone: Ancients and Commoners, a sealed surface, Kannir, and King Odz belong to that opening lore. Then you are on your feet in Origin Laboratory, with Upper Origin Laboratory as the connected vertical neighbor. The job, as official copy states it, is to find the key to the surface, rescue survivors, absorb infected power, and work toward the ultimate weapon Fatal Claw. You do not need a spoiler map to start. You need to understand four systems the game puts in your hands immediately.

Stained glass, then the lab

Watch the intro. It is short, it names the conflict, and it is the only time the game will explain the surface seal without you hunting environmental text. After it, treat Origin Laboratory as a real first region: rooms connect, infected occupy corridors, and you will already see ability-gated ledges you cannot use yet. Mark those ledges on Carox instead of assuming they are decoration. Upper Origin Laboratory is part of the same awakening complex; if a path climbs, check whether you simply missed a stair or whether you need Blink, glide, or wall climb you do not have yet.

This wiki will not invent a forced five-ability unlock order for that first hour. Confirmed movement tools in the full kit include Blink, glide (you can grab walls while gliding), and wall climb. Lyani’s Claws arrived with the first expansion. Silver Chain is a 1.0 Aphotic Marsh pickup, not a starting claw. If a door in the lab refuses you, the honest answer is often “come back,” not a fake key item name.

Healing is a combat resource

Healing is not a panic sip you save for the credits. It is a core combat resource. Spend it when a hit would cost a longer walk back, not when you are already safe at a rest point. Exact flask counts, cooldown seconds, and restoration values are not published here because they are not in the confirmed notes we trust. Play the accessibility and difficulty sliders if a room is eating your entire heal budget; the game ships those sliders for a reason. After bosses, owl statues restore HP. That is a post-fight recover, not a mid-combo crutch. If you have not beaten a boss yet, do not wait for an owl. Manage heals in the lab the same way you will later in Elord Castle: as part of the fight, not as an afterthought.

Carox from the first room

Carox is the Cat Radar Codex. You have a map from the start. Open it. Fatal Claw fills in rooms as you explore; you do not buy a blank parchment from a shop to make the lab exist. Place map markers on anything that looks like a later ability gate, a locked door, or a collectible you cannot reach. Drones exist for the same reason: snapshot a nasty layout when Carox’s icons are not enough. New players lose time because they treat the first hour as a corridor. It is not. Origin Laboratory is already a Metroidvania slice. The Map Hub and All Areas exist for later regions; Carox is what you use now.

Stone Warp is the fast-travel layer once you have points to warp between. You may not feel it in the first twenty minutes. That is fine. The mistake is ignoring Carox until you are already lost in Strigine Quarry.

Cabitz and Engraved Skills

Cabitz are charm stones, Jibbitz-inspired slots that change how Kisha plays. You will not finish a complete endgame loadout in the lab, and you should not try. Equip what you find, read the item text, and swap at rest points. Named Cabitz in patches include Half Salvation Stone, Traditional Royal Whetstone, Prepared Strike, Dotiman’s Token, and Heart of the Black Curse. Older names such as Sage’s Moonstone, Spirit Bead Rosary, and Sacred Flame of Life were renamed; if a guide still uses the old labels, it is stale. This page will not invent slot counts or upgrade gold costs.

Engraved Skills are absorbed from infected enemies. Mana charges by attacking. If you poke once and then hide, your specials stay empty. The first-hour habit is simple: keep hitting safely so the gauge exists when you need a skill. Mutated Abilities are Kisha’s own kit, separate from Cabitz. You will meet more of them as you leave the lab. See the Abilities Hub, Mutated Abilities, Engraved Skills, and Cabitz Builds when you want names rather than first-hour habits.

What to do in the first hour

Stay in Origin Laboratory until you can move, heal, and read Carox without pausing every room. Rescue survivors when the game presents them. Talk to anyone who will talk. Sorr as a faction and Sorron as a leader show up in later story; you do not need their whole plot in the lab. If you find a Claw Tree, the confirmed boosts are Retrieve Photoenergy Boost and Blink Attack Boost. Take the one that matches how you already move.

Controller support is full, and Steam Deck is Playable. Rebind in the menu rather than memorizing a wiki’s guessed keyboard layout. For a binding reference, use Controls and How to Play. Beginner Tips overlaps this page on habits; this page is the Origin Laboratory hour.

When the lab starts looping, you are ready for the full walkthrough. Lower Moss Cave and the Jibanam Trees are 1.0 content you may hit soon after. Do not sprint for Aphotic Marsh in hour one. Silver Chain is a marsh tool. Come back when Carox and your movement kit say you can.

If you want the route hub instead of another lab paragraph, return to the Walkthrough Hub. If a named elite is already wiping you, skip to the Bosses Hub rather than grinding invented experience levels. Fatal Claw does not use a public XP ladder. Your first hour is systems literacy, not a level cap.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do I have a map at the start?

Yes. Carox, the Cat Radar Codex, is available from Origin Laboratory. Fill rooms by walking. Place markers and drones on gated ledges instead of hoping you remember them.

How does healing work in the first hour?

Healing is a core combat resource, not a cutscene sip. Exact flask numbers are not listed here. Use difficulty sliders if rooms drain you. Owl statues heal after bosses, which you may not have yet.

What is Cabitz?

Charm stones in a Jibbitz-inspired slot system. Equip what you find and swap at rest points. Older names like Sage's Moonstone were renamed in patches.

Can I change difficulty in Origin Laboratory?

Yes. Accessibility and difficulty sliders exist. Use them in hour one rather than assuming the lab is a damage tutorial you must suffer through.

Where does Kisha wake up?

Origin Laboratory, with Upper Origin Laboratory as the connected vertical space. The stained-glass intro covers Ancients, Commoners, Kannir, and King Odz.

Should I rush Aphotic Marsh in the first hour?

No. Silver Chain is a 1.0 marsh pickup used for backtracking. Finish lab literacy, then follow the full walkthrough when Carox opens outward.
