Fatal Claw Origin Laboratory
Where Kisha wakes — and where 1.0 sends you back.
Origin Laboratory is the first named region in Fatal Claw and the place 1.0 asks you to understand again. Kisha wakes inside a life-support system built by Commoners who found Stones of Records — sleeping Ancients — after the Elord Kingdom fell ten thousand years earlier. They studied forgotten royal technology and the energy called Kannir, hoping to restore the Ancients and open a new era. Contamination arrived at the peak of that work. Survivors retreated deeper. King Odz sealed the only passage to the surface. Years later, you open your eyes in the same facility with almost no memory.
Treat this page as a geography essay, not a second tutorial. First-hour systems — healing, Carox, Cabitz — live on Getting Started. The region list lives on All Areas. Combat nearby belongs on How to Beat Early Bosses. Come here when you need the laboratory as a place: opening wing, 1.0 upper return, and why later tools still matter in rooms you thought you finished.
The opening wing
The first rooms teach claw, jump, and the fact that scenery is not wallpaper. Developers said they wanted interaction: breakables, pits you cannot climb back out of yet, and a map that is already in your hands. Carox (Cat, Radar, Codex) is available immediately. Rooms colour in as you walk. You can drop markers. You do not buy a zone map from a shop. If you feel lost in the lab, open Carox before you assume the layout is unfair.
Healing is a combat resource from minute one. Kisha starts weak. Official commentary frames recovery as a core loop, not a side flask you ignore until a boss. Magic statues that restore mana appear so you can spend Engraved Skills without starving the bar. Snaga’s Brooch fragments (and later heart pieces) raise maximum HP; this wiki will not invent drop rates.
The first NPC encounter is voiced on purpose. Cabitz — charm stones inspired, in the team’s own talk, by hanging decorations — arrive early so you can socket a playstyle before the first real lock. The first named pressure near the lab is often Saitin (Weed Control on Steam). Developer commentary notes that remote skills work well on that fight if you keep attacking to refill magic. See the Bosses Hub rather than treating this page as a move list.
Commoner science, Kannir, and King Odz
The laboratory is not a generic sci-fi basement. Commoners built it to restore Ancients and to study Elord technology plus Kannir. Kannir later becomes the toxic liquid of the Kannir Belt; condensed Kannic was kingdom currency. Those later rooms make more sense if you read the lab as the place that tried to civilise that power.
King Odz sealed the surface passage when contamination spread. That seal is why Kisha’s job includes finding a key to the surface instead of walking out the front door. Nagaraja’s corpse and Carbo’s Prayer sit in this scientific graveyard in patch language; interact, read, move on. Nagaraja is lore, not a second phase you missed.
Jack’s Vault, the Combinator, and other named lab-adjacent objects belong on Collectibles. If a door still denies you, the answer is usually a Mutated Ability, a story item, or a 1.0 tool — not a shop you invent.
Upper Origin Laboratory (1.0)
Version 1.0’s teaser is explicit: after surviving the underworld, Kisha returns to the place it all began. Upper Origin Laboratory is that return. Ten thousand years after Elord fell, this is the upper research sprawl. Survivors once retreated deeper; the surface stay sealed. The teaser asks what happened the day the pod was still closed, and how that tragedy connected to the corruption that ate the world.
Bring later movement. Blink, wall climb, glide (including grabbing walls while gliding), Lyani’s Claws, and eventually Silver Chain reopen shafts you walked past in the opening hour. Mark them on Carox in the first pass. Do not assume Early Access cleared the upper floors.
Stone Warp exists later; the laboratory still wants you to walk the first time. If a cutscene map looks empty, that was a known bug elsewhere — wait, then confirm your position. Owl statues after bosses restore HP from the 2nd Expansion onward; use them when an arena sits in this complex.
How the lab connects
Suggested flow matches Boss Order: laboratory and moss, then quarry, canyon, tundra, castle, dungeon, Kannir, marsh. Your save can braid that. Lower Moss Cave is the water-and-Jibanam neighbour. Do not treat the lab as a hub town you fast-travel through until Stone Warp and levers actually exist.
Steam tracks arrival-style trophies on other regions more loudly than it names the lab, because the lab is the default spawn. You still want Codex journals here. Memory fragments on extra cycles replace pickups you already took; see New Game Plus.
If you bounced in Early Access, 1.0’s upper laboratory is one of the four named launch geographies (with Lower Moss Cave, Higasha Tenshukaku, and Aphotic Marsh). Play it as new map, not as a coat of paint on the tutorial.
Practical checklist
- Open Carox in the first rooms. Pin pits you cannot climb.
- Socket the first Cabitz before the first named fight.
- Treat healing as part of every skirmish, not only bosses.
- Leave upper shafts marked until you have later claws and chain.
- Return after 1.0 story flags; the teaser is a return visit, not flavour text.
Pair this region with the Full Walkthrough when you want a route, and with Survivors when a beacon in the lab is a person rather than a crate. Origin Laboratory is where the underworld explains itself. Walk it twice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Origin Laboratory only the tutorial?
It is the opening region, but 1.0 also sends Kisha back to Upper Origin Laboratory with later tools. Mark shafts you cannot finish on the first pass.
Do I start with a map in the lab?
Yes. Carox is available from the beginning. Rooms fill as you explore. You do not buy a laboratory map.
Who built the Origin Laboratory?
Commoners, after finding Stones of Records with sleeping Ancients. They studied Elord technology and Kannir. King Odz later sealed the surface passage.
Is Nagaraja a boss here?
Patch notes mention Nagaraja's corpse and Carbo's Prayer. Treat that as lore interaction, not a hidden second phase.
When should I return to the upper lab?
After you have later Mutated Abilities and 1.0 story access. The official teaser is a return to where Kisha awoke, not a first-hour detour.
