Fatal Claw Kannir Belt
Lethal green energy — toxic liquid, solid Kannic, warped space.
The Kannir Belt is the 2nd Expansion region that finally shows Kannir in the wild. Official teaser language is almost a poem: endless massive pipes from the Kannir Drilling Site, a land of lethal beauty, green glow, lifeforms adapted to poison, space itself warped, sanctuaries in safe pockets. Steam tracks reaching the belt and later work around a Kannir Sanctuary seal. This page is the field guide. For the atlas, see All Areas. For charms that keep you alive on toxic floors, see Cabitz Builds. For late arenas, see How to Beat Late Bosses.
Kannir versus Kannic
Kannir is the fundamental energy of the Elord Kingdom in raw, primordial form. In liquid state it is highly toxic. When condensed into a solid called Kannic, it becomes a stable energy source — one that was even used as currency inside the kingdom. Do not mix the words. Kannir is the hazard. Kannic is the coin (and the civilised form). Kannium, the Claw upgrade material at cat statues, is a third loop; see Collectibles.
Origin Laboratory lore already said Commoners studied Kannir. The belt is where that study looks naive. Pipes ask where the drilling site truly leads. You will not get a wiki spreadsheet of pipe IDs. You will get rooms that punish standing in the glow the way Aphotic Marsh later punishes sludge.
How to explore without dying to the floor
Treat the ground as part of the fight. Sustain Cabitz (Half Salvation Stone, rosary-style charms) are honest. Heart of the Black Curse is flavour; it will not make Kannir friendly. Owl statues after bosses restore HP — use them before you warp into another toxic shaft.
Movement: Blink for gaps, glide plus wall-grab (added from community feedback in this expansion era), wall climb, Lyani’s Claws for the kind of ledges quarry and canyon already taught. Silver Chain is a 1.0 marsh tool; do not expect it as a Kannir skip. Pin sanctuaries on Carox the way you pin owl statues.
Those who revered Kannir built sanctuaries in safe zones. Others entered for their own purposes. If a room feels like a shrine in the green, it probably is. Steam’s sanctuary-seal language is your hint that a named lock lives here. Bring the story object the game is waving, not a fan-made key item from another Metroidvania.
Combat language
Adapted lifeforms breathe this ecology. Expect elites that want you to keep hitting so Engraved Skills charge. Snaga’s Lightning Chain likes extra targets if the room spawns adds; empty bars still lose. Reien’s Covenant is wolf-flavoured and may feel off-theme here — still use it if it is the spender you have. Extermination Protocol exists; a patch stopped it from surfing air currents forever. Do not invent DPS tables.
Unnamed belt bosses are still real. Scout, respect contact damage, owl-heal, Stone Warp only after levers exist. The Bosses Hub will not invent a Kannir king name this wiki cannot confirm.
Where the belt sits in a 1.0 save
v0.9.265 added Lower Elord Castle, Jayma’s Dungeon, and the Kannir Belt together. Suggested geographic flow still puts castle and dungeon before or beside the belt depending on your keys. Jayma’s Dungeon is sealed existence; the belt is industrial poison. They answer different questions. Elord Castle is the political heart. The belt is the energy the heart ran on.
1.0 does not replace the belt. It adds Lower Moss Cave, Upper Origin Laboratory, Tenshukaku Interior, and Aphotic Marsh on top. If you skipped the belt in Early Access, 1.0 still wants those pipes. Mark them.
New Cabitz in this expansion era include Traditional Royal Whetstone, Prepared Strike, Dotiman’s Token, and Heart of the Black Curse. Sacred Flame of Life became Half Salvation Stone. Finding them is exploration; locations are not published as coordinates.
Practical notes
- Do not picnic in the glow.
- Sanctuaries are the save-your-run rooms. Pin them.
- Kannic is money. Spend it where shops exist; this wiki will not invent prices.
- Codex entries and Steam achievements grew with the expansion. Overlay is the live list; see Achievements.
- If music or glow makes you miss a ledge, Look Up / Look Down range was increased earlier — use it.
Pair the belt with the Full Walkthrough when you want a route, and with Updates Hub when you want the patch that spawned it. Lethal beauty is the official phrase. Play it that way: slow enough to read the pipes, fast enough that the toxicity does not finish the run for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Kannir the same as Kannic?
No. Kannir is toxic liquid energy. Kannic is the condensed solid that was used as kingdom currency.
When was the Kannir Belt added?
In the 2nd Expansion Update (v0.9.265), alongside Lower Elord Castle and Jayma's Dungeon.
Do I need Silver Chain for the belt?
Silver Chain is the 1.0 Aphotic Marsh tool. The belt is expansion geography that uses Blink, climb, glide, and Lyani's Claws.
What are Kannir sanctuaries?
Safe pockets where people who revered Kannir built shelter. Steam also tracks a Kannir Sanctuary seal. Pin them on Carox.
Should I skip the belt until 1.0 endings?
No. 1.0 adds other regions on top; it does not replace the belt. If Carox still shows green pipes, go there.
